The fee for all therapy services is my base hourly rate of $250/session. You pay for the time you schedule. If you are late to your session, you will be seen for the remaining time and charged the full fee. If you choose to end a session early, you will not be refunded for the remainder of the scheduled time.
Do you accept Insurance?
I am a private pay provider. I do not take insurance and clients are seen on an out-of-network basis. What this means is that sessions are paid for up-front and you are provided with something referred to in the insurance industry as a superbill. You are responsible for submitting the superbill to your insurance company, and they reimburse you according to your policy's out-of-network benefits.
Why do you not take insurance?
When filling and submitting claims to insurance companies, they require me to provide a diagnosis, even if a diagnosis may not be appropriate. By not billing insurance, I can meet client needs without labeling for an outside company.
If we submit a claim to insurance companies, they have the right to obtain and read copies of anything in your chart. Subsequently, this increases the risk of client's information being exposed. Also, if you or your child needs a federal background check for a number of reasons including joining the military or government employment, the client's personal information may be obtained through insurance. Increased privacy is one of the core values of my practice and I want to offer the highest protection of your private health information.
Insurance companies put a cap on how much time I can spend with you and I believe that should be up to you. For example, some insurance policies dictate the length of treatment, number of sessions, and time allotted per appointment. By not filing with insurance, I am able to offer you the most effective treatment as opposed to allowing insurance to determine treatment options. I want to provide you the most confidential and best quality of therapy.
Insurance companies have policies regarding which diagnoses qualify for and deserve reimbursement and which do not. As a private pay provider, I do not have to pathologize your symptoms in order to get paid. I prefer to postpone labeling you with a diagnosis until you have developed some coping skills in therapy.
When is my payment due?
Payment is due no later than 24 hours before your scheduled session. If you forget to make a payment, I will charge the card you have placed on file 24 hours before your appointment time, after the cancellation window has passed. If payment cannot be charged within 24 hours of the appointment for any reason, the appointment will be automatically cancelled. If the appointment is made less than 24 hours in advance, the fee will be charged immediately to hold the slot.
Payment Options:
We accept cash, check, and all major credit cards as forms of payment. Health Savings Account (HSA) cards are also accepted. Please be reminded that I do not accept insurance. If you need a referral to a clinician who accepts insurance, please contact your insurance company for a list of contracted providers.
Do I have to keep a payment card on file?
All current clients must have a valid payment card on file through the Simple Practice portal, or services will not be scheduled. If your payment is declined either because your card expired or there is no payment method on file, your appointment will be cancelled. It is your responsibility to keep a current card on file.
Do you charge for late cancellations and/or missed appointments?
Any late cancellations will be charged 100% of your scheduled session fee. A cancellation is considered late if you cancel less than 48 hours prior to the scheduled appointment time. After three consecutive cancellations by the same client, the policy changes to 72 hours notice, and a cancellation will be considered late if you cancel less than 72 hours prior to the scheduled appointment time. I reserve the right to terminate therapy with clients who show a pattern of late cancellations. If you are on my caseload, I have a responsibility to meet with you regularly. If meeting at the scheduled time is not working for you, let's talk about finding a different time or switching formats of how we meet. With email, voicemail, and text there is always a way to let me know if you cannot make your appointment, except in the case of an emergency. In limited circumstances, I will consider issuing a credit in the case of an emergency. Documentation of the emergency may be requested. There will be no refunds for no shows/missed appointments. Only credits, and for emergencies. Please be advised that services may be terminated in the case of repeated no shows.
If I cannot make my appointment, what constitutes an emergency?
For the purposes of cancellations and no-shows, an emergency is defined as one or more of the following:
You are in the emergency room for yourself or an immediate family member.
Someone you take care of has fallen ill suddenly.
You are in a serious automobile accident.
You are in a situation that involves law enforcement or incarceration.
Death
Will you remind me when I have a payment due?
I will send a first appointment reminder 48 hours prior to your appointment time. This gives you time to update your card if it has expired prior to the cancellation window so you do not get charged or lose the slot. I will send a second reminder 24 hours prior to your appointment time. These reminders are courtesies and the technology may occasionally fail. Showing up for appointments is your responsibility. Failure to receive a reminder does not waive the late cancellation fee. I do not allow clients to carry a balance.
Can I pre-pay for several sessions at once?
No. I do not accept bulk payments for therapy appointments. Session payments will not be collected more than one week prior to a scheduled appointment.
Can someone else pay for my therapy?
You will need to fill out an authorization for disclosure and release of information that is specific to third party mayors. The person paying for your services will need to complete a third party payor agreement and will need to keep a card on file, no exceptions.
